A total turn-off

Mazwi moves back to the Moroka mansion to fix his marriage to Sphe, but things don’t go as planned.

-

Just because Mazwi (Musa Ngema) is officially back home on Wednesday 26 December and playing happy family with Sphe (Pearl Monama) doesn’t mean that everything is hunky dory. Despite wanting to forgive his wife for her 2016 affair with his brother Smanga (Moopi Mothibeli), Musa admits that his character is still tossing and turning. “He is having nightmares and he can’t focus on anything! And what’s worse is that he keeps picturing Sphe in bed with Smanga.” Because of that, Mazwi is now avoiding going to bed at the same time as Sphe to keep from touching and kissing her. “He thought that they would simply pick up where they left off, but they’re off to a rocky start. Sphe is annoyed with Mazwi for pushing her away again. Their marriage is at an all-time low,” adds the actor.

BACK TO SQUARE ONE

Mazwi isn’t willing to forgive or forget the betrayal by his family either. He no longer wants anything to do with the Moroka elders who forced Sphe and Smanga together to produce an heir because of Mazwi’s infertility. “Initially, the plan was that he and Sphe would move out of the family home [in early December] and buy their own place,” explains Musa. But there’s a problem with that because moving Sphe out of the mansion would interfere with Rorisang’s (Dithoriso Mosaka) routine. “Because the baby has cerebral palsy, leaving would make it difficult to get treatment,” says Musa. “Mazwi detests being around his family but it’s in Rori’s best interests – and he’d do anything for her, even force himself to sleep on the same bed as Sphe again despite Rori not being his daughter.”

BENEFIT OF THE DOUBT

Sphe isn’t letting her no-sex husband get off lightly and she dims the lights and waits to pounce on him of Monday 31 December, but there is more disappointment, says Musa. “Mazwi just pushes her off and tells her that he can’t be intimate because he isn’t in the right mind.” Because Mazwi promised that he wouldn’t bring up the Smanga issue, Sphe immediately thinks that he’s cheating, “Just like in 2016. But he isn’t. He really isn’t ready to be intimate,” points out Musa. “He needs time to get over the affair. He loves Sphe and deep down, he wants to work on their marriage. But it’s got to be baby steps to get to where they were before,” reveals the actor. That’s if they ever get there again…
