Prince Otsile’s relationship with commoner Mapula might be in for a rough patch if his dad has his way.
Mapula (Didintle Khunou) caught the eye of Prince Otsile (Kagiso Modupe) in late 2018 and they’ve been trying to make it work despite their families’ very different worlds. She’s a lowly commoner, while he is of royal blood. “She is completely head over heels in love with her literal Prince Charming,” says Didintle, who adds that they’re no slouches in the bedroom: “It’s steamy and passionate all the time!” The next logical step is a proposal on Wednesday 2 January, which has the kingdom ready to celebrate. All except one person who has the power to destroy them…
What is his problem, this grumpy old man?
Moseki (Don Mlangeni) is Otsile’s father and they need his blessing to get married. He believes that Mapula only wants to marry his son for his money, which is totally untrue. She really does love him. Is Moseki that greedy, or is there another reason he’s against their marriage? In the village, royals must marry within the bloodline to keep the royalty pure. Marrying a commoner is against the tradition and frowned upon greatly. Mapula has proven that she doesn’t break
easily though… Mapula doesn’t care for or fear Moseki. At this point, nothing will stop her from leaving her unhappy past and making a new life. This is her only chance of being happy and she is going to grab it with both hands.
What do you mean by unhappy past? She was born in the kingdom of Kweneng but moved to Johannesburg looking for a better life. She didn’t find it and became a prostitute just to survive. Sounds like she’s running from her past by coming home, right? Oh yes! There is an incident [on Tuesday 15 January] where one of her former clients arrives in the village and demands her service again or he’ll tell everyone about her sinning. What will happen if Otsile learns about her previous life? It will be an extremely sad day for her because she’ll lose him. Her secret is safe for now, but she is going to have to work incredibly hard over the next few months to make sure that at least this secret stays hidden.
