GETTING INTO DEEP WATER

1Magic’s first telenovela started on a high in January 2018 with ruthless mine owner Lindiwe (Sindi Dlathu) killing her worker Thato (Don Mlangeni) to save her struggling business in the very first episode. Bludgeoning him over the head and drowning him in the river was so graphic and violent that her adoptive son Zolani (Lawrence Maleka) was speechless as she throttled the life from Thato, all in the name of a giant diamond.

WEB OF LIES

Lindiwe proclaimed innocence from day 1 for Thato’s murder, blinding everyone to her guilt by promising to help Thato’s daughter Itumeleng (Larona Moagi) find his killer. Lindiwe was so good at manipulating Tumi that by November, the teen was ready to marry Zolani and be part of Lindiwe’s family. The best part of the wedding? The gorgeous Gert-Johan Coetzeedesigned gown that made Tumi look and feel like a princess.

GOING WITH THE FLOW

The biggest surprise of the year? A crossover in December with Mzansi Magic soap The Queen (2016-current, see left) that saw Lindiwe reunite with her friend and druglord Harriet (Connie Ferguson) as they took down Lindiwe’s rival Goliath (Kennedy Stab) in a bloody brawl.

Cobra’s secret lovechild caused drama with his family and his girlfriend, Lindiwe proved that she’s still deadly with her back to the wall, and the Dikana kids’ New Year’s party was a disaster.

2 – 4 JANUARY

Itumeleng falls deeper into her mother-in-law Lindiwe’s lies, and Cobra’s babymama Angel makes a convincing argument to get closer to his family. Walter goes after Lindiwe’s mine empire, and Dimpho is furious that Angel has lied her way out of trouble again. Walter later thinks that he’s got Lindiwe by the throat but she shouldn’t be underestimated.

7 – 11 JANUARY

The Mokoena family have cause to celebrate when the residents of Refilwe township turn on Lindiwe but she’s got a trump card up her sleeve: Itumeleng. Walter watches with glee as his plan to ruin Lindiwe appears to be working, and Itumeleng is surprised when her husband Zolani takes Lindiwe’s side. Later, the Mokoena and Dikana families are united in shock when Itumeleng’s orphan past is revealed.

14 – 15 JANUARY

Itumeleng demands answers from Malefu about being adopted, and Zolani desperately tries to save his marriage.
