Divorcing the drama
James swaps his bossy wife Moliehi for someone who will let him be the man of the house for a change.
A year of being bullied, controlled and used by his wife is enough for James (Dingaan Mokebe) and he tells Moliehi ( Vatiswa Ndara) that they are over. “Let’s be honest here,” explains Dingaan matter- of-factly. “Their marriage last year in the soap’s 18-month time jump was not one of love, but rather one out of convenience. It was a business decision and nothing more.” He adds that James and Moliehi having the same ruthless business mind helped them feel close because they complimented each other in the boardroom, but Moli ruling the home with an iron first lost its appeal for James. “He’s had enough of being told what to do,” says Dingaan, whose character hands over divorce papers out of the blue. “Moli always wants control, even over things that are beyond her grasp. She isn’t right for him.” But someone is.
A BLOODY MESS
James planned the split some time ago and feels that he is free to date again with or without a signed divorce. And he’s chosen his lamb: Moliehi’s innocent PA Marang (Sharon Seno), who is dating James’s business rival KK (Macdonald Ndou). “He can see the future with her that he can’t with Moliehi,” says Dingaan. “He isn’t afraid of KK. The fact that she is dating KK makes this sweeter for him.” Vatiswa meanwhile says that her character is seething when she sees James flirting with her PA in public. “How can he do this when they are still married? And her of all people?” Seeing how timid Marang is while being wooed by a bigname businessman sets off a lightbulb in Moli’s mind and it’s onto plan B.
CONTROL FREAK
She goes from fierce warrior woman to grovelling weakling, begging James to reconsider and find a solution. “It’s the opposite of this woman who was waving a gun around last year when problems from her past returned,” says Vatiswa. “She thinks that showing him a softer side will get James to stop the divorce,” but while Dingaan says that it’s a done deal because James doesn’t believe Moli’s sudden change of heart, she isn’t done yet. If Plan C includes harming Marang to get her out Moli’s way, “So be it,” says Vatiswa.
