Jason Greer

What’s going on in your favourite actor’s head?

-

Jason Greer has swapped continuity presenting and hosting award shows for something spicier: he’s hosting The Bachelor SA (2019- current, see more on p32) and will try to control the 24 ladies fighting for Lee Thompson’s love. When he’s not watching sitcoms, Jason is taking cues from US reality icon Ryan Seacrest (host of E!’s Live From The Red Carpet events). “I admire Ryan for his absolute talent and insight into TV, as well as the work that he does [off-screen] with his foundations,” says the 39-yearold presenting star and voiceover artist.

What was the first TV show you acted out with friends? Action series The A-Team (1983-1987). I always wanted to be BA (Mr T) but ended up being Murdoch (Dwight Schultz).

Who was your first TV crush? Alyssa Milano, Sam on sitcom Who’s The Boss? (1984-1992). What did you do when an adult moment came on while you were watching TV with family? I didn’t have to do anything. My mom would suddenly start talking about something random until the moment was over. What product have you wanted ever since you saw it on television? Kevin Trudeau’s Mega Memory System. He’s now serving a 10-year prison sentence for defrauding consumers… Whose TV wardrobe do you want? Jake Peralta (Andy Samberg) from Brooklyn Nine-Nine (2013- current). Whose TV house would you love to live in? Easy! Jay’s (Ed O’Neill) mansion in Modern Family (2009- current). What shows are you fanatical about at the moment? Well, The Bachelor – duh! Buddy cop comedy Brooklyn NineNine and sci-fis Black Mirror (2011- current) and Stranger Things (2016- current). If you worked behind the scenes, which job would you want? I have, for many years as a runner [assistant]. I got a first-hand account of just how hard people behind the scenes work. It’s not easy nor glamorous, but I’d like to be behind the lens. You can create the most beautiful scenes with a single movement. But it takes a village to raise a show! What is your nightmare scenario while filming? I’m hosting a live segment and lose the ability to have an intelligent or witty comeback to a guest’s comment. Scary stuff! With all the reboots happening, which series would you like to reboot and be part of? To be honest, they should let sleeping television shows lie. I can’t really think of one good reboot to date and for good reason. But if I had to choose one: alien comedy Alf (1986-1990). I’d be the dad. That could be fun. If you could play any character on any show, who would it be and why? I would love to have played Michael Knight (David Hasselhoff) in Knight Rider (19821986). He wore a leather jacket, drove a talking turbo-boosting car and he got to save the girl and the day. Come on! What show and episode made you cry most recently? I don’t cry. If I were to, it would be Britain’s Got Talent (2007- current). I cry all the time watching that show… I mean, um, okay I cry. Pfft. What show made you want to be on TV? The original UK Pop Idol (2001-2003). Watching Ant and Deck presenting, I knew I wanted to do that. And if you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be? My feet. They’re just a couple of sizes too big at 12. I’d like to be a 10. It’s not easy finding shoes that fit, you know?
