Get the game going

Season 4 of The Game kicks off the comedy, drama and action after a quick timehop. But nothing’s changed.

-

Timehops in shows usually hint at a huge change, often behind the scenes with a one of the bigger cast members leaving the show. That’s not the case in season 4 of BET dramedy The Game (2006-2015), which originally aired in 2011 in the US. “We’re all still here this season and we’re having an absolute blast with our characters,” says Pooch Hall, who plays NFL sportsman Derwin Davis. “Coby Bell [Jason] hasn’t left – he’s still recurring. Brittany Daniel [Kelly] is too. But we had to do a time jump just to prod the story alone a little, you know?” So where does the new instalment pick up?

STANDING TALL

LaTasha (Wendy Raquel Robinson) She’s on more than a little break from her cheating husband but her new relationship has already hit the rocks. That’s in no small part thanks to her son and star client Malik, whose problems on and off the pro football field have got a little out of hand. Malik (Hosea Chanchez) has gone from professional baller to tabloid fodder by sleeping with his boss’s wife and facing an early end to his career. Plus, he’s got to deal with a couple of angry colleagues whose girlfriends he’s also been seeing on the side. Kelly (Brittany Daniel) is stepping out of her husband Jason’s celebrity shadow and becoming a star in her own right – and she’s doing the same way that many other wives-and-girlfriends do: with her own reality show. It’s going to rub Jason and some of her friends the wrong way though when she’s a little too free with what she says about them in front of the camera. Jason (Coby Bell) is dumped by the Sabres team and he goes on a downward spiral overnight. He also has to worry about his finances now, as well as his wife Kelly letting slip on his former colleagues’ secrets that he shouldn’t have told her to start with. Melanie (Tia Mowry-Hardrict) goes on a mini meltdown after getting DNA test results that show her husband Derwin isn’t a father, which is a bit of a relief to her at the beginning. But seeing how Derwin falls apart over the news hurts her just as much. Derwin (Pooch Hall) is in for a surprise though when it’s revealed that there was a little mix-up with the DNA test results. Going from dad to not-the-dad to dad again plays havoc with his emotions and marriage.
