Dan Fogler is one of the newcomers for the second half of The Walking Dead’s (2010- current) ninth season as survivor Luke but he’s no stranger to the fantasy genre – he played Jacob Kowalski the baker in 2018 Harry Potter spin-off film Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes Of Grindelwald. “I love these two characters. They are worlds apart but so fascinating in what they do, where they come from and where they are going to go.”

Who is Luke? The first half of season 9 ended with this new survivor group being welcomed by the group… I really love the fact that the gang that he’s travelling with get him and they get that what he’s doing is out of hope and love for humanity. That vibe is infectious. He is a former high school music teacher and knows that there’s safety in numbers. What level do you connect with him on? We have the same sort of dialogue and language. We are similar in that sense. I’m a lot closer to him in the worlds we live in – Jacob was in the past, like centuries ago. Luke is more or less now. Along with your group, we’re also being introduced to The Whisperers. Chaos is coming in a whole new way. These bad guys are evolving – The Whisperers are a nightmare. They are going to force people to step up and take the lead. At the same time, they have to ask: do we worry about The Walkers or these guys? Actors who’ve been there for a couple of seasons say that the weather in Atlanta is tough… Nature? Oh yeah – we’re hardly indoors on this show. The weather is its own character. You can’t control that. Does that make you favour film work more? They’re different mediums. I’ve been a fan of The Walking Dead since 2003 when they were just graphic novels, so I’m on cloud 9 with this role.
