No money, no honey
Skhumbuzo’s cashflow problem spells disaster for his relationship with Rendani.
Skhumbuzo (Thokozani Zikalala) is in deep trouble. He has taken out so many loans to support his mom Moliehi ( Vatiswa Ndara) in her divorce with his step- dad James (Dingaan Mokebe) that he doesn’t have the money to pay anyone back. “The loan-sharks are after him and they want their pound of flesh. But Skhu is a proud man who won’t ask for help or admit there’s anything wrong,” says Thokozani. The one person who does notice something’s off with him is his girlfriend Rendani (Innocentia Makapila). “She knows him well and sees that he is more defensive than before. His secret phonecalls also upset her.” Their romance is sailing head-first into stormy waters that could sink them fast than Titanic.
SERIOUS DEBT
“No son can sit and watch another man, especially a step-father, emotionally abuse his mom the way James is doing. And cutting her off financially,” explains Thokozani. Worst of all, James is refusing to let Skhu to work for his company. “Earning a good salary would really have helped Skhu get out of this mess, but it’s not meant to be.” This upset Skhu and drove him into making the biggest mistake of his life: taking money from loansharks. “The interest these ruthless people force you to pay is sky high, but Skhu is desperate.” With the increasing pressure of dealing with them and supporting him mom, he takes out his frustrations on Rendani.
CHEATER CHEATER
Rendani decides to eavesdrop on Skhu talking on the phone in a hushed voice. It’s one of the loansharks but Rendani jumps to other conclusions. She thinks he is cheating on her and when she confronts him, he doesn’t confirm nor deny it. It seems Skhu would rather be a cheater than show her that he is weak! Rendani walks off in tears after the argument because “Skhu’s ego gets the better of him and he doesn’t do anything to make the situation better”.
THE END
It won’t be long before Rendani sees threatening SMSes on her boyfriend’s phone from the loansharks. “She realises what’s going on and tries to talk to him and give him advice, but he pushes her away,” says Thokozani. Things are going to get worse between the couple before it gets better. “There will be a point where Skhu will break and this will bring out his dark side that could scare Rendani away… forever.
