Man on a mission

Mzi comes to the rescue and helps Bash escape a prison sentence for Bongi’s murder.

-

IAttorney Mzi (Jesse Suntele) isn’t going to stand back and watch his friend Bash (Siphiwe Mtshali) go down for a murder he didn’t commit – not while he has his own score to settle with the person he thinks is responsible. “The only evidence that the police have against Bash is that he was first at the murder scene when he found his girlfriend Bongi (Thembi Seete) hanging from the ceiling in her living room earlier this year,” explains Jesse.

At first it was declared a suicide but a post-mortem revealed that she was drugged, then hanged. “Bash didn’t do it! He loved Bongi and Mzi wants to help him clear his charges,” says Jesse. Mzi believes that Bongi’s business rival

David (Jamie Bartlett) is the culprit as “he had a lot to gain from her death. He’s had his eye on her record company Red for a while and with her gone, he’s the new CEO, which means more money for David,” says Jesse. Mzi goes digging for evidence to expose David as “he wants justice for Bash. Mzi won’t rest until David is behind bars”.

THE BLAME GAME

Giving Bash his freedom isn’t the only reason that Mzi is working overtime to expose David – he has an ulterior motive, hints Jesse. “Mzi wants to settle scores with David for destroying his relationship with David’s daughter

Pearl (Petronella Tshuma),” says Jesse. Because David has never liked Mzi, he couldn’t stand the idea of Mzi being all lovey with his daughter – even her being in prison was better than in Mzi’s arms. So he separated the couple by letting Pearl get arrested for a hit-and-run accident in December last year. As David hoped, it ended in Pearl dumping Mzi because she didn’t want him to see her in prison. “With all the connections that David has, he could’ve easily helped his daughter out of prison,” says Jesse, as David is friends with corrupt cops that could help get rid of Pearl’s case docket. “But keeping her in prison works for him as it means Mzi and Pearl won’t be together.”

THE DRIVING FORCE

Mzi isn’t wasting time and “as soon as Bash is out on bail, Mzi goes into David’s office hoping to find anything that will indicate motive for murder,” says Jesse. Mzi also wants Bash to help him get Pearl out of prison as soon as he s acquitted. “Mzi is desperate to reunite with Pearl, but first he needs David out of the picture so that he doesn’t come between his relationship again,” reveals the actor.
