Weekday viewing gets a boost tonight as season 2 of fantasy action show The Librarians (2014-2018) kicks off. Noah Wyle (Tom Mason in Falling Skies, 20112015) continues as “The Librarian” Flynn Carsen, but his role is reduced as Noah steps behind the camera to direct. “I’m a little too old for this swash-buckling stuff, so I’m letting the younger crew take over,” says the 48-year- old.

Season 2 starts months after season 1’s finale (on Wednesday 24 June) as they are reunited at a museum, having been hired – individually and unknowingly – to “get” exhibits for the same unseen client, who turns out to be Moriarty (SA-born David S Lee, Pavel in NCIS: LA, 2009now) the villain in the Sherlock Holmes novels (18871915). “They are walking into a trap,” says Rebecca. “They put the entire world in danger, especially The Library. Everything in The Library gets stolen, even King Arthur’s fabled sword Excalibur.”

The problem for the team in season 2 is that they have a new task: saving the world. “In season 1, they learnt to work as a team, but now they have to work as good people, which is difficult because in their own ways they’ve all had hard lives,” says Noah. “Eve is mistaken for a hardened soldier. She is on the outside but she has a soft heart. Their individual ‘weaknesses’ will all be exploited.”
