Point Of Order

Season 2 SABC2 (*192) 19:30 Comedy

South Africa has no shortage of colourful politicians who provide comedians with loads of material, says funnyman Joey Rasdien on comedy “gameshow” Point Of Order (2020-now). “We live in such serious times, so having fun with parliament is a blast,” adds the comedian who played the magistrate in comedy movie Molly & Wors (2013). “We have a mock parliament (on the show) with the government and opposition on opposing sides as panels. We debate things like Marmite or peanut butter being the national food.”

For Joey, the best thing about being on Point Of Order is that he gets to work with friends from the stand-up comedy scene and they feed off each other during filming. “Tumi Morake (Teres in international scifi series Vagrant Queen, 2020-now) is Madam Speaker, and she takes her job seriously. It’s difficult not to laugh when she goes on a rant,” says Joey. “I love guests like Mark Banks (himself in comedy film Laugh Out Loud, 2003). Mark is always funny and insightful.”

The show relies on improv comedy and while Joey has been doing standup for years, it isn’t always easy. “It’s a hit or a miss. Like everything in life, practice makes perfect,” says the star, who has been hard at work in 2021 already. “I’ve just finished two comedy movies, Barakat and New Material – they will be released later this year. I’d love to do some sports commentating too. Soccer and football, you know like NFL American Football. That would be a blast,” says the 43-year-old Joey.
