Baddie like daddy: Yuveer steals USB

Yuveer goes out of his way to show his father Sanil that he can be just as conniving.

-

Let’s be honest: Yuveer Maharaj (Zahir Bassa) isn’t the sharpest tool in the shed when it comes to business. But his dad Sanil (Jack Devnarain) is, and the young man has a front-row seat to the show. “Yuveer is learning a lot from his dad,” says Zahir. “When we met Yuveer a couple of months ago, he was meek, with low self-esteem. But watching Sanil play the corporate game rubbed off on him. Yuveer has grown a backbone, and he is ready to make his mark in the world of business, just like his dad.” Yuveer sees an opportunity to prove his skills when Sanil forces Zithulele Bhengu (Raphael Griffiths) to create a job for Yuveer at his company Shongololo Oil. “It’s his time to shine now and help his dad in his new scheme,” adds Zahir, who played Qadir in three episodes of political drama Homeland (2011-2020) when it shot in Cape Town in 2014.

DIGGING FOR DIRT

Yuveer’s presence irks his new boss though. “Yuveer and Zithu don’t get along at all. Now Zithu is forced to face this nuisance on a daily basis,” says Zahir. With the plan of stealing inside business secrets for Sanil, Yuveer will get to work quickly snooping through Zithulele’s office. “He’s almost caught redhanded by a cleaner,” says Zahir, but not before hitting the jackpot – Yuveer finds the USB stick that went missing from his father’s safe a while back. He assumes that it must’ve been Zithulele who stole it. “On the stick is sensitive info on almost everyone – the company and its dealings with clients, but also the rival Bhengu family company Maluju Oil, and details that involve the Rampersad family,” says Zahir. Thinking that he’s doing the right thing, Yuveer hands the USB stick back to his dad.

LOVE & WORK

Yuveer is stunned when Sanil hands the USB stick to Shria Rampersad (Kajal Maharaj). “He instantly realises that his dad is up to something and he wants answers,” explains Zahir. It turns out Sanil is trying to win over Shria, who despises him, so that he can get closer to her mother Nirupa (Jailoshini Naidoo). “Maharaj wants to marry Nirupa, but that’s part of his plan to get Nirupa’s shares in Maluju Oil,” explains Zahir.

“Yuveer is upset and worries that he will lose his dad. He wants to be his father’s confidant and prove that he can be just as unscrupulous. But if Sanil marries Nirupa, the father-son dynamic will change,” warns Zahir, who adds that his character will surprise viewers, Sanil and himself by how far he is willing to go to keep his dad.

Shria was close to discovering Maharaj’s secret, Lindiwe was rattled by something at her work, and MaZulu had plans for Maluju Oil. Nkululeko meanwhile had nightmares about his late mom.

24 – 26 FEBRUARY

Maharaj and Menzi fight over a job opening at Shongololo Oil, and Zithulele’s plans to elope with Nokuzola stop when they’re told that the lobola negotiations will resume. There’s drama later at Shongololo Oil when Zithulele learns that he’s been betrayed by Menzi and Nirupa, who hand the new position to Yaveer.

1 – 5 MARCH

There’s a celebration at the Bhengu house when Nokuzola returns from the lobola ceremony, and Nkululeko is furious that MaZulu is planning to contest his dad Ngcolosi’s will. Yaveer is caught snooping through Zithulele’s office, and Zakithi is being tormented by an enemy. Lindiwe is saved from a dangerous situation, and Shria and Zithulele realises that the only reason Maharaj wants to marry her mom Nirupa is to regain his shares in Shongololo Oil.

8 – 9 MARCH

Nokuzola suspects that she might be pregnant, and Fikile sends a bullet as warning to MaZulu to back down at Maluju Oil.
