Can Nonka and Hleziphi’s friendship survive a love triangle with not-so-honest Kwanda?
After all the bad luck Nonka (Thuthuka Mthembu) has had in her relationships – like her boyfriend being fatally hit by a stray bullet last year – it makes sense for her to be hesitant to move on. “Nonka is scared that history will repeat itself in one form or another…” explains Thuthuka.
But love arrives when you least expect it. Nonka met the handsome Kwanda (Sandile Mfusi) and he’s clearly smitten with her, but she’s still guarding her heart. “Kwanda isn’t going to give up. He’s ready to date her and he likes the fact that she’s business minded,” says Sandile. But what neither of them realise is that someone else is keeping tabs on their vibes…
HELPING HLEZIPHI HAND
With Nonka putting up a wall and keeping some distance, her best friend Hleziphi (Sibongiseni Shezi) swoops in to romance Kwanda. “It’s like a matter of seconds and she’s a gone girl,” says Thuthuka. “We all know the type of person Hleziphi is when it comes to men, so it’s no surprise that in order to bag Kwanda, she resorts to some pretty unamusing things.” Not that she needs to, because Nonka seemingly isn’t into him. Or is she?
A THREATENED FRIENDSHIP
Secretly Nonka has started to fall for Kwanda and that puts the besties in an awkward position. But Nonka blames Kwanda rather than Hleziphi for their “entanglement”. “Nonka isn’t happy that Kwanda is becoming between her and her friend, so she chooses Hlezi over her feelings,” says Thuthuka.
Realising that she doesn’t quite have all of Kwanda’s attention, Hlezi “goes pretty far to juggle the relationships,” says Thuthuka, adding that “Hleziphi even gets irritated when Nonka dares question her about Kwanda.” Turns out that even though Nonka does want to keep Hleziphi as a friend, she “still feels a slight grudge towards Hleziphi because Hlezi had a hand in ruining Nonka’s relationship with Njeza (Nkanyiso Makhanya) in July last year,” says Thuthuka, referring to when Hleziphi stole Njeza’s money and ran off, leaving Nonka to deal with Njeza’s wrath alone.
UNTANGLED MESS
It’s not going to be all that simple to solve this love triangle though, says Thuthuka. “Viewers can expect to learn about the dangers of muti,” spills the actress, hinting at a supernatural twist. Sandile adds that his character “is going to make it worse because he’s not only torn between the two women, he’s hiding a secret from them both”. Because it turns out he’s in the drug-dealing business…
