Oops, it’s a girl!
Shoki accidentally ruins Nkosi and Mampho’s gender reveal.
Usually when people receive an invite to a Zwide family event, they clear their diaries. After all, who would decline the chance to rub shoulders with the rich and famous? So Shoki (Shalate Sekhabi) is far from thrilled that her fashion exec boyfriend Nkosi Zwide (Wanda Zuma) and his ex-colleague Mampho (Gaisang Noge) – who he impregnated earlier this year in a one-night stand – are throwing an intimate gender reveal party. “Shoki declines the an invitation as she’s still outraged that Nkosi and Mampho are expecting a child,” explains Shalate, whose character changes her mind after careful consideration.
“Shoki loves Nkosi, which is the reason she forgave him for cheating and fathering another woman’s unborn baby. She naïvely thinks that they can get through anything together – even Mampho, who’s trying to drive a wedge between Shoki and Nkosi,” says Shalate. As a result, Shoki puts her emotions aside and attends the gender reveal party to stand by Nkosi’s side, only to inadvertently ruin the occasion. BABYMAMA DRAMA
Although Nkosi has made it clear to Mampho that his heart belongs to Shoki, Mampho believes that she’s still got a chance with him. “That’s not all,” says Shalate, “Mampho thinks that if she gets Shoki out of the picture, Nkosi will fall into her arms and they’ll be a ‘happy family’ with their kid.” So, Mampho uses the gender reveal party to end Shoki and Nkosi’s relationship, once and for all. IT’S IN THE CAKE
On the day of the gender reveal party, Mampho puts her plan in motion. She starts by taking digs at Shoki’s outfit and the sly comments keep coming… “Shoki bites her tongue to avoid causing a scene, but she’s offended,” says Shalate. The last straw to Mampho’s taunting comes moments before the big reveal. As she’s about to cut the cake that reveals her unborn baby’s gender, Mampho recites a speech in which she insults Shoki once more. “Shoki can no longer take the antagonising and she decides to leave,” adds the actress. As Shoki turns to leave, disaster strikes: Nkosi tries to stop her and Shoki loses balance and accidentally knocks the cake over. It splatters and the pink filling is exposed, sending a hush across the room. “The party signifies Shoki and Nkosi’s relationship: Mampho will lead to their breaking point,” reveals Shalate.
