Run The World
Season 1 1Magic (*103) 21:00 Comedy
In New York City’s vibrant Harlem, four friends are chasing and reaching their career goals, falling in and out of love, and they’re developing a solid sisterhood in new comedy series Run The World. When the show begins, the glue of the group and banker with a Type-A personality Whitney Green (Amber Stevens West) is planning her wedding. “What I enjoy about Run
The World is that it’s hilarious, sexy and smart. If you’re drawn to womencentric storylines that celebrate friendships, then you’ll love watching the show,” explains Amber.
For the other three lead characters, writer Ella McFair (Andrea Bordeaux) is struggling to adjust at her new job at a gossip blog following a failed novel, funny marketing consultant Renee
Ross (Bresha Webb) is at the end of her wits while her marriage crumbles, and their impulsive PhD student mate Sondi Hill (Corbin Reid) is in a secret romance with her supervisor.
What makes Run The World different from shows that follow women friendships in The Big Apple is that it explores the African-American experience through the four women’s lens. “Usually in shows about careerdriven black women, they’re shown as intimidating and [overbearing]. Because they’re focused, they battle to sustain relationships, but Run The World changes the narrative,” explains Amber. The friends are thriving in their professional worlds, but they’re also busy creating loving relationships… or trying to. “These characters are flawed, which humanises them. You’ll see them make mistakes and lean on each other through the ups and downs. It’s been validating portraying a character that feels authentic and with real, solid girlfriends,” adds Amber.
