TV Plus (South Africa)

RANT & RAVE

Have your say and tvplus will help where we can!

-

It is with shock and disgust that I see the flimsy, woke and basically a layout of what to see on TV is now R53… FIFTY THREE RAND! You should be ashamed of yourselves. You are more expensive that a Huisgenoot that is TWO TIMES the volume than your magazine, which is R13 cheaper than your rag. Disgusted and angry, I will NEVER BUY THIS MAGAZINE AGAIN. YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF YOURSELF. – Hugo Fourie per email Hi Hugo, I understand your reaction to the price increase, I know it is steep. Unfortunately, with the exchange rate and petrol price and everything going up, we didn’t have a choice but to adjust the cover price.

I personally feel that tvplus offers loads more value for money. We do not have many ads in and it’s totally content driven without even too many images to waste space. With every edition of the magazine, we try to offer more bang for your buck.

Our TV content, like our interviews and soap information, can’t be found anywhere else – and I’m proud of that. I would never call it a rag. I know it’s not printed on the best paper, but imagine the price if it was! We have specialist journalists, we conduct interviews and find out stories in advance, and we really go to a lot of trouble to offer a high-quality magazine.

Very sorry to lose you as a reader.

Hi tvplus, I see that OpenView has dropped the weekday e.tv lunchtime news and has closed at least two other channels. Is it possible they don’t have the finances available to be able to support those channels, and if that is the case, how many other channels are going to vanish? I can foresee a lot of people becoming disgruntled with OpenView and moving to DStv. – Regards, Lynda B per email.

Hello Linda, e.tv is busy launching new channels and cleaning up their schedules to make more space for local shows. I don’t think it’s a financial issue at all. They even recently announced a channel with all the dubbed Turkish and other soaps. (And I saw your email about Days Of Our Lives and the contractual obligations. As far as I know there isn’t a contractual obligation in place to still air it, but I’m double checking that and hope to have an answer for you soon. Please remind me if I don’t!).

Dear Lucia, I hope this email finds you well. I watch only DStv soapies and would therefore appreciate content on these:

The River, The

Queen, DiepCity and Gomora. I’m a HUUGE fan of tvplus, keep up the good work. Have a great week. – Kind Regards, Tshiamo per email

Dear Tshiamo, you made my day with this message! We do try to have stories on the soaps you mentioned, but we find it particularly hard to get info from the channel. But we’ll keep trying. This issue, we couldn’t even get teasers for DiepCity to my utter disappointment. Thank you for your support. I do hope you read some of the other articles.

Dear Craig [deputy editor of tvplus], let me start by saying thank you for my copy of tvplus! Next, how sad I am that my favourite soapie as Days is coming to an end. I have watched for many years, and its timeslot of 16:30 has been a highlight of my day!

Now for the gripe! Every Monday I wait for Survivor and during Unfiltered, my eyes start to close. Please why has this show, which I know many people enjoy watching, have to be so late? For the last four episodes I have dropped off during Tribal Council. It probably has nothing to do with you but can’t you put in a good word to SABC? Thanks for continued interest in the viewer’s concerns! – Best wishes, Rosemary

Hi Rosemary, it’s always a pleasure hearing from you!

It is such a pity that Days will no longer be aired on e.tv, but you can read up on some of the weird, wonderful and wacky storylines that will continue on p30! As for Survivor, SABC3 revamped their schedule to be on the hour and unfortunately it was shuffled down the pack. You’re not alone though and we’ve already sent off a nice mail asking for an earlier broadcast. Keep viewing and keep reading! Craig.
