Skeletons tumble out

Omphile’s secrets threaten to destroy the Ngema family.

-

An emergency lands Omphile (Botlhale Boikanyo) in hospital, but soon the family realise that this problem won’t be easy to solve. Secrets are about to test their bond and it causes a divide – especially between Omphile and her older sister Lindiwe (Nomvelo Makhanya). “The family don’t see eye to eye because of the situation,” says Botlhale. “Lindiwe and Omphile disagree on a lot of things, but Lindiwe also has her own agenda in this whole mess. Lindiwe starts to worry about what Omphile will start to notice, it’s very juicy and she’s scared her sister will see her dark secrets,” Nomvelo adds.

A FIGHT AHEAD

Omphile is despondent that her condition isn’t fixed immediately. “This issue takes her into an unknown space and she’s totally scared. She needs all the support she can get, especially from her family. Her frustration builds, not knowing what’s happening with her and not getting answers weighs heavy on her,” Botlhale says. And the Ngemas are struggling just as much. Omphile’s uncle Bheseni (Mondli Nkomo) arrives from KwaZuluNatal and insists Western medicine won’t bring any results, only going the traditional route will result in a cure. “None of the children want to listen to Bheseni because he speaks the truth and they don’t want to hear that,” says Mondli, adding that his character will offer another solution. It gets to the point though when Bheseni plays hard ball and plans to force every-one to heed his advice. “Kids don’t know best, especially when they’re being stubborn,” says Mondli.

WEST MIGHT NOT BE BEST

Ignoring her uncle’s advice, Omphile undergoes scientific tests to try get to the bottom of her condition. “The results are definitely not what the family was expecting,” says Botlhale, ephasising that “it leaves Omphile even more confused about what’s going on”.

Bheseni uses the test results to launch another attack on the doctors. “He isn’t surprised. He believes that the answers don’t lie in Western medication and what they’re told is just proof that the traditional route is the correct one.”

LINDIWE’S LIES

In the process of trying to find answers, a secret Lindiwe hoped was buried is unearthed – and it’s as devastating as it is juicy, says Mondli. “Bheseni knows there’s something Lindiwe isn’t telling them. What he doesn’t know is that it involves the rest of the family and it will be destructive.” The question now is who’s going to expose everyone’s lies?
