OMW (OH, MY WEDDING) MOMENTS
It’s been a roller-coaster ride in Hillside the past two weeks. And if you blinked, you may have missed some of the jaw-dropping drama. Here are some of the highlights:
1 Days before the wedding, Bonita started having second thoughts. “Doubt started to creep in, especially now that DeWet knows his beloved Bonita was involved in helping Lana (Mila Guy), the mother to Shawn’s unborn child – DeWet’s grandchild – to escape and that Bonita knew the details surrounding Shawn’s death,” Hildegardt recaps.
“The biggest challenge DeWet and Bonita were facing was the sudden truth that was revealed about Shawn’s death – a corkscrew from a champagne bottle that Rickus was opening hit Shawn’s head and he collapsed,” Hildegardt adds. “To a certain extent, Bonita felt cold feet. She opened up to Vanessa about always making wrong decisions when it comes to relationships and marriage. She questioned herself whether this could be the right one, perhaps,” she adds. Not that it would’ve made a difference now – they’ve been married for a year!
2 You don’t double cross DeWet. And that is exactly the mistake Koedoe made. On Bonita and DeWet’s wedding day, his best man Chris (keep your friends close and your enemies closer, as they say) couldn’t find him. “DeWet went to see his mom in an old age home and took her pictures of Bonita to ‘introduce’ them, but at this time Chris panicked and asked his friend Koedoe – who has been playing double agent to DeWet for Chris [as Chris’ spy and letting him know DeWet’s every move] – to track DeWet’s cellphone. DeWet then returned to the penthouse and met Chris there to go to the wedding venue, but not before he got a chance to listen to voicenotes exchanged between Chris and Koedoe. It gave him confirmation of Koedoe’s betrayal,” Dirk reveals. 3 As the wedding finally got underway, it wasn’t Bonita walking down the aisle but a woman in a black dress and veil! Shortly before the wedding, Bonita was locked in a hotel by none other than Erika (Corine du Toit), DeWet’s ex-wife and Shawn’s mom. And Erika was determined to turn the wedding into a mourning service for their son.
Before leaving the bride locked up on her wedding day, Erika told Bonita that DeWet would deal with Bonita. Bonita was convinced DeWet was going to take revenge on her for helping Lana and keeping the Welmans’ involvement in Shawn’s death a secret.
“Bonita thought DeWet wanted to kill her, so she called her ex Tony (Marlo Minnaar) to help her and she made her way to the airport to escape. But DeWet tracked her down and set things straight, declaring his love for her and assuring her he would do her no harm,” Hildegardt says.
4 And special mention goes to the guests pitching at the wrong venue due to a typo on the invitation. Half of the guests went to Ivy’s (Nazli George) church, while the wedding was at a hired venue.
