Killing Eve

Season 3 SABC3 (*193) 21:00 Action

-

Edward Bluemel wishes that he could be a spy like his character Hugo Turner on action thriller series Killing Eve but he’s got one huge problem: Confidence. “It’s a thing – I get easily intimidated and it’s a problem because I retreat into my shell and just sit there and go almost catatonic,” says the 28-year-old British actor. “I freeze up when I go to parties and meet other famous actors and celebrities. I’m star-struck easily and stand there with a mouth full of teeth.”

The actor studied Drama & Theatre at the Royal Welsh College Of Music & Drama, which he never thought he’d get into. “I was rejected twice by the College, so the third time getting in was a wonderful experience,” he says. He’s got a third nipple – it’s more of a skin blemish than an actual “organ”, but Edward says he’s proud of it because it made him popular in high school because everyone wanted to see. Edward loves anything to do with spies and admits that his dream role would be a male version of Moneypenny from the James Bond films. “I’d love for them to flip it genderwise and I’d be the first one auditioning. There’s talk of a female Bond, so why not a male Moneypenny?” says Edward.

He joined Killing Eve in season 2 and admits he’d never watched an episode. “My agent called and told me to prepare. I didn’t watch anything and just winged it,” he jokes.

As a rule Edward travels internationally at least once a year. “It was difficult during COVID-19, so I was smart and travelled locally to places I’ve never been to. But the second I could go overseas, it was straight to LA,” he says.

And like his character, Edward is a techno geek, revealing that he gets a new phone every six months.
