Rose Leslie knows how to diversify her performances – she played maid Gwen Dawson in period drama series Downton Abbey, wild nomad warrior Ygritte in fantasy series Game Of Thrones and lawyer Maia Rindell in drama series The Good Fight. And in fantasy drama series The Time Traveler’s Wife, she’s tugging on heartstrings as loving wife Clare who tries to deal with her hubby Henry (Theo James, Sidney Parker in period drama Sanditon) jumping through time. “I’m not sure I’d be as calm about it as my character,” says the 35-year-old Scottish actress. “I like my husband staying where I can see him…”
She’s been married to her Game Of Thrones co-star Kit Harrington (Jon Snow) since 2018 – they fell in love while playing their starcrossed lovers on the show. They had their son in August 2021 and have kept even his name out of the public eye. Rose is also Kit’s sober companion and says that she spent months trying to research addiction to help him with his boozing habit. “It’s something Kit is forever going to be aware of, but it’s on him whether he chooses to drink again,” she says.
The actress is of Scottish nobility – her father is the Aberdeenshire Chieftain Of Clan Leslie and her mother is a descendent of King Charles II.
She moved to France when she was 10 and speaks fluent French.
Rose likes getting her hands dirty and did her own stunts for Game Of Thrones, revealing that the show’s archery coaches “gave me one lesson. I split my first arrow with my second and never trained again.” NB! See p12.
