World’s Greatest Treasure Mysteries

-

Season 2 History (*186) 19:25 Doccie

Treasure-hunting brothers Rick and Marty Lagina are always up for a good mystery if there’s gold at the end of the road like on their other show The Curse Of Oak Island. Now they’re leading the hunt again on World’s Greatest Treasure Mysteries, focussing on gold and jewels from the shipwrecks of the famed 1715 Spanish treasure fleet. And they’re getting ever closer to that blingy booty…

Seventy-year-old Rick is four years 1 older than Marty and he used to work for the US Postal Service. Marty on the other hand worked in the energy industry extracting natural gas – he sold his company and made millions that the brothers use as partial project funding. Their fascination with the Oak 2 Island mystery started when Rick came across an article about it in 1965 in Reader’s Digest magazine. “It was more than the gold. It’s about the notion of secrets and mysteries – the gold is still out there waiting for us,” says Rick. Marty has an engineering degree 3 as well as a law degree. “I intended to go to law school. People always said I should be a lawyer because I loved to talk with people,” says Marty. “It helped knowing the law. You can’t make moves in business without legal knowledge.

I act as my own lawyer” Marty adds. “I didn’t have the money to hire a lawyer initially, so I acted as my own.”

Rick says that he has felt something 4 supernatural while on Oak Island. Besides the curse that calls for the death of seven people before the Oak Island Treasure will reveal itself, “The island has an aura, something I can’t really articulate. Strange, inexplicable things happen, especially as far as equipment malfunctions,” explains Rick.
