Devastating fire wipes out family’s entire home

- PETA LEE

The home of Lion’s River community activist and junior soccer team promoter Neo Moshoeshoe was razed to the ground last Monday night, wiping out 15 years’ worth of the family’s memories and belongings.

Moshoeshoe, who heads up the Lions River Youth Project and who has featured numerous times in Village Talk for his efforts to establish a pre-school in the area, clean up/repair the sports field and encourage sponsorship and support for the promising local soccer team LionsRiver United, which he manages, said the fire had left the family with nothing.

“We were very lucky no one was in the house,” he said. “My wife was at a family function in Mafakathini so was sleeping over, my two children were with their other granny, and I was at my mother’s house.

The fire broke out, apparently, at about 1.30 in the morning. I have no idea what caused it. There was no one there, so it is a mystery. Everything was destroyed. We don’t even have a teaspoon left.”

His biggest worries now, he added, were his eight and 10 year old sons. “They have no clothes, nothing. We are going to have to start rebuilding the house as well, but that doesn’t happen overnight.”

If anyone can help with any form of donations at all, clothes, beddings, kitchenware, whatever, please contact Moshoeshoe at 076 441 9434. Or drop them at Village Talk offices at 3 Market Street, Howick.
