UMGENI WATERFALL BOWLING CLUB
The last week of October has come and gone in a blur and in we’re in November already! We hosted our very first Amber Glades Sizzling Sixties 2 Bowl Trips competition on Wednesday, October 25, and what a fabulous morning with 14 teams participating.
Not only did we have a range of experienced bowlers, but also some non-bowlers from Amber Glades who, after just one short session of “bowls 101” were brave enough to join in and roll on the day.
The teams with the Amber Glades players were allowed a two point handicap to account for the lack of experience, however, with Neil having won a toucher prize perhaps they didn’t need it after all. Thank you so much to Amber Glades for their generous sponsorship, and well done to the following teams: 1, Ed Speed, Pat Ciro and Ann Marnoch; 2, Mike Scheffer, Jo Boonzaier and Julia Strachan.
The Plate prize went to Stephanie Crause, Egon Von Mayer and Pat Bennet.
We certainly hope to see this competition become a more regular feature in the future.
On Friday, October 27, we held our monthly Dormehl Phalane Property Group 2 Bowl Trips competition.
As usual this competition was very well supported with 20 teams on the greens vying for some great meat vouchers and sweet treats sponsored by DPPG.
Congratulations to the following teams on a successful morning’s bowls and thank you to Pippa and her team at Dormehl for their ongoing support and sponsorship.
The results were: 1, Craig Whitby, Mark Taylor and Clark Logan; 2, Rian Van Rensburg, Werner Strydom and Gerry Van Rensburg; 3, Mariana, Koos Marais and Neill Birdsey. The Plate prize went to Stuart, Steven and Sue.
Well done also to Neil Bowles and Pippa Griffin for winning the 100 Club Cash Draw.
Lastly, on Saturday, our club singles champions Mary Steytler and Colin Burden took part in the NIBA Champion of Champions competition, where they both did their absolute best despite awful weather conditions. Congratulations to you both; you have made us proud.
