Ele­phant kills man

KATH­MANDU: A wild ele­phant tram­pled a man to death in south­east­ern Nepal yes­ter­day, po­lice con­firmed.

The 64-year-old was asleep in his hut when the ele­phant at­tacked him in the dis­trict of Jhapa.

The in­creas­ing hu­man en­croach­ment on forests and ele­phant trails is caus­ing the an­i­mals to stray from their habi­tat and into vil­lages. At least 10 peo­ple have died in Nepal in ele­phant at­tacks dur­ing the past 12 months. – Sapa-dpa
