Breakfast at a place with a view

Café: Maestro’s on the Beach Bridge Road, Woodbridge Island, Milnerton Contact: 021 551 4992 Twitter: @MaestrosCPT Hours: Weekdays from 10am to midnight, weekends from 9am to midnight Dish eaten: Omelette with Bolognaise, cheese and onions Price: R60 I DON’T know how they do it. I was introduced to Maestro’s by a radio DJ a few weeks ago and I found the place low on price, but big on scenic views.

A breakfast for two with beverages came in at R120. And the breakfast menu is an all-day one, to boot.

This week, my colleague and I soaked in the tourist-perfect views of Table Mountain from this beach restaurant.

Just about every breakfast item on the menu comes with chips and some include complimentary juice and tea or coffee.

After scanning the menu, I selected the Bolognaise omelette. It was made with two eggs and had a filling that included cheese and onions. It was plated with chips and the meal came with toast (which I was too full to eat) and coffee.

The omelette was neat and not overflowing. The cheese melted well into the filling, and gave a gooey element to the omelette with each slice I took. The chips were fried until golden and were a good nibble.

My filter coffee was just right. The vegetarian colleague had the English breakfast, which is usually two eggs, two slices of toast, two rashers of bacon, tomatoes, chips, a small glass of juice and tea or coffee. They were happy to swop the bacon for mushrooms for her.

She commended them for the portion size.

There’s also a sandwich and croissant list if you aren’t feeling up to an egg breakfast.

Maestro’s has a chilled vibe. Easylistening country music and R&B plays, while you watch surfers wade in and out of the waves.

The restaurant makes good use of natural light, which shines through glass doors.

The waitress staff were friendly and helpful, checking regularly on us. Maestro’s offers a “hotel-style” buffet on weekend mornings from 9am to 11am.
