Accident shuts Eskom sites

-

CONSTRUCTION work at all Eskom sites countrywide has been suspended after the accident at a site near Ladysmith in which six people died.

This would ensure that all the safety standards were in place, chief executive Brian Dames said yesterday. The stoppage would last for as long as it took for all site managers to be sure their safety standards were in place and checked.

General manager Gerrie Bronkhorst said four of the six people who died in the accident at Eskom’s Ingula pumped storage scheme near Ladysmith on Thursday morning were foreigners. He would not divulge their nationalities.

The men were working on a platform in one of four tunnels when the platform came loose. – Sapa
