Celebrity celebrations
SO WHAT are South Africa’s celebs getting up to for Christmas? And what are they hoping to find under the tree on Christmas morning? As always, spending time with family, being lazy and low-key. I find Christmas is about kids and going easy on each other. Free antiretrovirals for anyone who needs them, human rights to include gay people, the funding of food for anyone who is hungry, an end to radicalism in all forms – a reason to reflect. I’m a vegetarian, so there will be exotic salads, lentil and nut roasts, quiches and loads of chilled fruit. We are spending time with our family and friends in South Africa. Sexy Brazilian bikinis, for the beach days in Cape Town. I am vegan, so my Christmas breakfast, lunch and dinner will be green smoothies, salads and delicious veggie meals. We’re in Clifton having a beach holiday, but we’ll be going home to Joburg to our families for Christmas Eve. A girl can never have too many fragrances. A real traditional family Christmas dinner of either roast beef and gravy, stuffed turkey or glazed ham. Christmas will fall during the traditional Boxing Day Test match in Durban, so we will be preparing for that Test during Christmas. My wife will be with me, so we will probably have a family lunch or something on the day. Haha, I’m not too sure. I haven’t given it much thought, but any useful gadget or golf equipment will be nice. The usual traditional Christmas food, including turkey. As always, I will be heading to Durban to spend Christmas with my family.
Winning MasterChef and the amazing opportunities that have followed on makes me feel simply grateful. I couldn’t really ask for too much more. I will be making an Asian-style gammon and some Christmascake flavoured ice-cream for Christmas lunch. Christmas Eve will be spent with my close family and Christmas day will be spent with my wife’s family. Cheesy as it sounds, to spend time with family is the best gift I can get. Hopefully lots of delicious stuff prepared by our families. I admit to being a terrible cook, but I do love food, and appreciate anyone who can whip up a delicious meal.
