Supervised medical and compassionate care for the elderly
ST JOHANNES HEIM SPOKESPERSON ST JOHANNIS Heim describes itself as a Christian-based retirement home not only for the German-speaking community in Cape Town.
It provides excellent medical and compassionate care for the elderly under the supervision of registered nursing sisters and trained personnel. It opened its doors on October 17, 1981. St Johannis Heim caters for a variety of needs.
First, the retirement village for independent living is called St Johannis Gardens and offers 52 units, flats and free- standing residential units in a beautiful setting.
There are an additional nine bachelor units (one of which is currently available).
Second, there is a frail care department with space for 21 residents, as well as single rooms for 29 semi independent residents.
Each room is equipped with call buttons, as well as an intercom system to ensure that residents have direct access to the nursing and care staff who are on call and on site 24-hours a day.
Third, the Johanniter ward offers accommodation for 14 frail care residents. Rooms are currently available. Meals are freshly cooked three times a day. The cost of residency is inclusive of meals, washing and cleaning. A variety of activities are offered.
The Lutheran Church, Bellville conducts a church service once a month at St Johannis Heim for the community and our residents.
St Johannis Heim owes its existence to its founders, the Lutheran Evangelical Church, Catholic Church, Johanniterorden and the German Club.
There is a need for regular volunteers to engage with residents. Members of the public are encouraged to give of their time.
