Hate flyer incident probed after nightclub threatened and businessman targeted

- CARYN DOLLEY

POLICE are investigating the origin of a flyer, calling for gays, lesbians and non-Muslims to be killed, that was sent to a club geared towards gay patrons in Parow.

A Rylands businessman has hired a private investigator to look into the matter after, to his horror, he learned his name and work contact details were listed on the flyer. It is understood this is not the first time the businessman’s name has been listed on such a flyer, and he believes the saga may be linked to unhappiness over a property or properties to which he is linked.

The flyer urges people to, among other things, “join our latest crusade” and “sponsor a rocket to kill non-Muslims”, as well as “kill the b......s” and “kill all lesbians and gays all over the world”. It was sent to a gay club in Parow about a week ago. Several UK numbers are listed on the flyer but the numbers appear not to be operational.

The club owner, who asked that neither he nor his business be identified for safety reasons, told Weekend Argus he received the flyer along with other mail.

“I’m quite alert now, you know, just in case,” he said.

The club owner reported the matter to Parow police.

Police spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Andre Traut confirmed the matter was being probed.

“A case of intimidation is being investigated by Parow police with relation to the threatening pamphlet left at a club in the area,” he said. No one had been arrested.

The flyer listed Mr Taj of the business Taj Radio as “our senior commander”. His business address and two landline phone numbers were included.

The owner of Taj Radio and TV Centre, who asked to be identified as MH Parker, was indignant when he was informed, saying neither he nor his business were involved.
