Municipal elections
Are the ANC election posters a joke? What with Zuma’s face and “advancing PEOPLE’S power while Zuma and Co are creating a shadow state? – Anita Craig, Muizenberg
People of Hanover Park, Manenberg, Bonteheuwel, Mitchells Plain, and so on, ask the people who want your votes what they are going to do about the gang violence when they come to canvass? Make them sign a binding contract and take them to a court if they renege on it. It’s ridiculous that once they are in office through your votes they live the high life while you and your children are massacred daily. – Mogamad
I am waiting for Mayor De Lille and her administration to do something which indicates that they have perceived a public need and have acted in a manner which alleviates it. They know nothing about preserving any good thing. – R Totos, Cape Town
Pistorius sentence
Sandy, how dare you insinuate that Judge Masipa took a bribe. She should sue you. – C Gee, Bergvliet
I think Judge Masipa was fair. (Pistorius had) already served 10 months. It was still dolus eventualis not proper murder and he is disabled, a previous hero and a first offender. I think Judge Masipa’s done well the second time round. The purpose of the justice system is to deter future criminals with silmilar circumstances but also to show an element of mercy. If it was my daughter the principle will count more than the term of the sentence. – Lurika van der Walt Schubert
Eskom
Eskom can get lost; now we see the massive salaries we are paying them, this is where huge cuts can be made. Who needs a salary of over R700 000 a month? – Lynda Tyrer
What is the difference between an Eskom bonus and corruption? – Andre Brits
Others
Non-white players have to deliver regularly to hang on to their spot and even then they can be sacked for non-performing white players. So who then are the quota players? Dewald Duvenhage, Johann Sadie, JJ Engelbrecht, Danie Poolman and Johnny van Wyk were carried throughout their careers with the Stormers. – Anthony Meyer, Retreat
Thousands of complaints to the public protector are gathering dust because the ANC government has starved her of funds but why have she and all our opposition parties not gone to the Constitutional Court to order that she be empowered to protect all citizens, as laid down in her constitutional mandate? – Richard Benson, Cape Town
