FoodBank South Africa, an NPO that collects food from manufacturers, wholesalers and retailers, and redistributes it to verified organisations that feed 140 000 people, has challenged people to join the fight against hunger for Mandela Day. The Red Cross Children’s Hospital Trust has appealed for donation of R67 – which will buy a child five minutes in the intensive care unit. All funds raised will go towards the R100 million they are raising for the upgrade and expansion of the paediatric ICU. Spend your 67 minutes with the Mdzananda Animal Clinic to help build kennels for the pets of Khayelitsha. Corporate and work groups will be accommodated on Monday. The Animal Rescue Organisation and African Tails have called for volunteers to help sterilise 67 dogs and cats from indigent Cape Town communities on Monday. Refreshments will be provided for volunteers who can donate their 67 minutes at the ARO Hospital at 5 Olieboom Road, off Strandfontein Road, Schaapkraal, Ottery. Or donate R300 per animal to sponsor a procedure.

Join Shoprite’s 67 000 sandwiches for #MandelaDay. The sandwiches will be distributed to local charities in need on Monday, and forms part of the group’s comprehensive Hunger Relief programme. The programme sees the donation of surplus food from all stores to hundreds of non-profit organisations feeding thousands of hungry people. Customers can donate R5 or more to the Group’s #ActForChange Fund at any till-point in Shoprite and Checkers stores nationwide.
