Talks on SA terror
DESPITE there being no real threat in South Africa, Pretoria and Joburg have been identified as the cities with the highest number of terrorism alarms.
“In South Africa, Gauteng, and specifically Joburg and Pretoria, lead the way of number of terrorists allegations,” said Martin Ewi, who is attached to the Transnational Threats and International Crime division of the Institute for Security Studies (ISS).
Ewi was speaking during the seminar Violent Extremism: how safe is South Africa?, hosted by the ISS in Pretoria yesterday.
He said it was possible for South Africa to deal with terror threats by conducting broad research on the subject and improving the internal co-ordination and communication of counter-terrorism activities.
