Pot­ter goes for a lotta

LON­DON: A first edi­tion copy of The Tale Of Peter Rab­bit has sold for £43 400 (R811 038).

The Beatrix Pot­ter book, fea­tur­ing 41 full­page line draw­ings, was one of 250 printed pri­vately by the au­thor in 1901 af­ter sev­eral pub­lish­ers turned her down.

But the story soon be­came a hit with her friends and fam­ily and a pub­lisher de­cided to print the book.

The copy went un­der the ham­mer at Dreweatts & Blooms­bury in Lon­don on Thurs­day.

The auc­tion, which marked the 150th an­niver­sary of the au­thor’s birth, raised al­most £100 000. – Daily Mail
