Veteran broad­cast­ers join forces to put their stamp on the air­waves

FOR­MER MetroFM DJ Tbo Touch yes­ter­day an­nounced a sur­prise part­ner­ship with Gareth Cliff which will see the two veteran pre­sen­ters launch a new HD ra­dio chan­nel called Touch Cen­tral.

Tbo Touch, real name Thabo Molefe, said Touch Cen­tral would be a 24-hour on­line mu­sic chan­nel fo­cus­ing on lo­cal mu­sic and would be free to sub­scribers.

The flam­boy­ant DJ, who is also a se­rial en­tre­pre­neur, merged his new ra­dio busi­ness ven­ture with Cliff, who also owns a two-year-old on­line ra­dio sta­tion, Cliff Cen­tral.

Tbo Touch said he would host the daily af­ter­noon drive show on the sta­tion ev­ery week­day from 3 to 7pm. The name would re­main The Touch­down.

Although Touch de­clined to re­veal the line up of his DJs, he promised it would not be the typ­i­cal fare.

“I can­not dis­close the names of those who are in the line-up, but I can tell you it’s noth­ing like the usual,” Tbo Touch said.

“We are go­ing to work with the un­der­es­ti­mated peo­ple in the game.”

The ra­dio chan­nel is set to launch on Au­gust 29, with the live count­down al­ready up on the sta­tion’s web­site.

Tbo Touch said he would give the first one mil­lion sub­scribers free data and mem­ber­ship.

Tbo Touch re­signed from MetroFm at the end of last month af­ter 11 years of pro­fes­sional ra­dio at the SABC sta­tion. – ANA
