Maties may have too much in their arsenal for hosts Langa

- ALLAN ISAACS

LANGA will host Maties in the early game today at 1.30pm.

Langa have not tasted victory since the second round of the season.

The early exchanges provided such hope for the community based team; unfortunately seem destined to be involved in an almighty relegation battle with Pinelands.

They have another tough fixture against a resurgent Central next weekend.

Maties have only lost to Central and drawn three games. They were crowned USSA champions during July and should have too many guns in their arsenal.

The league will then split into the top four teams and the bottom four with each team having to play three final games over three consecutive weekends to decide the league winners and who gets relegated.

The top four don’t carry their points which effectively means that they will play three finals in in row. Any one of the four can win the league.

WPCC have been the form team in the mens’s division and have asserted themselves at the top of the table remaining unbeaten in the campaign.

It would seem unfair to the log leaders in both men’s and women’s divisions, but it does add a lot of edge to the last three games.

In the Women’s Grand Challenge, Somerset West travel to Stellenbosch to face the unbeaten Maties Ladies firsts at the Stellenbosch Astro at 7.00pm.

Their last three encounters have all ended in draws. Somerset are the only team that Maties have been unable to dominate and will be at full-strength for this derby.
