Top award for Century City MyCiTi station

THE CENTURY City MyCiTi bus station has received a commendation in the prestigious CESA Aon Engineering Excellence Awards for 2016.

HHO Africa were the lead consultants on this innovative bus terminus project which was developed by the Rabie Property Group at a cost of R34 million, making it the largest private sector investment in public transport infrastructure in the Western Cape. It won the commendation for projects with a value of less than R50m.

Colin Green, a director of the Rabie Property Group, says the development of the MyCiTi Station was done as part of Rabie’s commitments to unlock additional development rights at Century City.

“The success of the project was the result of close collaboration between Rabie, Transport for Cape Town and the City of Cape Town as the MyCiTi operator while HHO Africa provided leadership to a full, multi-disciplinary professional team to deliver an efficient, integrated public transport facility within budget and on time,” he said.

The innovative bus terminal is within an existing busy public transport interchange and provides a seamless integra- tion with existing bus and taxi public transport operations, private vehicle parking areas and pedestrian network.

Green says the interchange had to fit onto a severely constrained site, which required the platforms be specially tailored without compromising operational efficiency, or disrupting existing operations.

“The project delivered high quality infrastructure, which integrates perfectly with traditional modes of public transport and provides increased interchange efficiency. Attention to such details as universal access ensures that the Century City station is accessible to all citizens who can now enjoy the benefits of low cost, high quality, reliable and efficient public transport.”
