Parliament prepares to grill SABC board

- SIYABONGA MKHWANAZI

THE SABC board could be out of office in the next few weeks after Parliament confirmed it will begin an inquiry into its fitness to hold office.

Despite attempts by MPs to get the four remaining board members to quit, they have refused.

This has led to the portfolio committee on communications, chaired by ANC MP Humphrey Maxegwana, preparing to begin the inquiry on Wednesday.

The board has been on the ropes for the past few weeks for illegally appointing Hlaudi Motsoeneng to a new position after serious findings against him by the Supreme Court of Appeal.

Two weeks ago Motsoeneng told MPs he was not going anywhere, even though they were trying to remove the board.

This will be the second board to be dissolved by Parliament in five years.

The ANC caucus in Parliament and its national executive committee have called for the inquiry.
