Bottomless bubbly a Friday treat

-

WHEN anyone mentions the phrase “bottomless bubbly” I take it as a personal challenge. It’s similar to something being described as “unbreakable” or, in the case of the Titanic, “unsinkable”.

When bottomless bubbly is promised I assume they haven’t met me yet and will likely revise the offer once they have.

So off we went to the Stella Café & Bar at Southern Sun The Cullinan, where they pour as much bubbly as you want from 5pm till 7pm. Served poolside every Friday, it’s the perfect way to ease into the weekend.

Amazingly, the price is not steep – just R140 a person, which is about the price of a bottle in the bottle store. Less even.

“Summer is the perfect time to enjoy the outdoors and #StellaSessions offers people a chance to socialise after work or before din- ner in a uniquely charming setting on the foreshore of Cape Town,” said general manager Garry Reed.

Stella Café & Bar will be partnering with various estates to offer guests a selection of local MCCs throughout the summer.

On our evening it was Simonsig Kaapse Vonkel, which is one of my favourites and I certainly did it justice but without ruining it for anyone else in the future.

Complimentary snacks – nachos chips and dips – are served but you can also order tapas to line the tummy.

We tried the bobotie spring rolls, a lovely little piece of pork belly and salt and pepper squid.

The new executive chef is the rather gorgeous Henrico Grobbelaar, who happens to be the captain of this year’s Culinary Olympic team.
