Weekend Argus (Saturday Edition)
Feast on fair’s favourite things
GABRIËLSKLOOF’S seventh Favourite Things Market takes place today and tomorrow at the olive and wine estate just outside Bot River in the Overberg, about an hour from Cape Town.
It’s a viable alternative to doing your Christmas shopping in a city mall. Ditch the crowds and parking nightmare for a fun social event with fabulous local food and wines, a craft and design market full of wonderful gift ideas – and live music.
“When last did you stroke a furry alpaca or shop with a glass of wine in your hand? Our market is a colourful celebration of all our favourite things. Young and old can feast on the best the Overberg and surrounds can offer in terms of design and food and to simply have a ‘lekker kuier’ on the koppie,” says Nicolene Finlayson, who is behind this inspiring artistic celebration.
This fair will transform Gabriëlskloof ’s courtyard into a creative hub filled with life’s little pleasures.
Among the foodie delights, enjoy oysters and bubbly; wine and cheese; fresh bakes and burgers; and, maybe a handmade chocolate or three. Shop for luxurious items made of alpaca wool; fine local designer jewellery; bespoke local and imported clothing; exquisite quilts, intricate ceramics and decorative fynbos; as well as handmade toys and knits, and so much more.
“The Gabriëlskloof Favourite Things market has become a fixture on the calendar for those who enjoy a refined, relaxed occasion in a beautiful location.”
There is a shuttle service from Hermanus at R50 a person each way. For transport bookings, contact Andre at info@whalecoasttours.com or Shirley at sjcraies@gmail.com The market trades from 10am till 5pm today, and 10am till 3pm tomorrow.
