Weekend Argus (Saturday Edition)
V&A has the holiday sorted
STILL looking for ways to keep the children occupied? The V&A Waterfront is your one-stop answer.
Last-minute shoppers can get their gifts wrapped today with proceeds from the service going to the Peninsula School Feeding Association, which helps feed hungry children across the Western Cape. It’s well worth it if you’ve got odd-shaped and awkward things to make pretty, plus you’ll earn good karma points.
Santa’s Workshop is open today from 10am till 1pm, and from 1.30pm till 4pm.
Later this evening the Amaza Ensemble will perform Carols for African Skies in the Amphitheatre at 7pm.
Formed in 2009, Amaza Ensemble is the brainchild of long-time marimba player Banzi Tema, who put together a group of talented individuals each specialising in indigenous instruments. The goal is to take indigenous sounds to new heights. The ensemble fuses local instruments such as the marimba and mbira with Western instruments such as bass guitar, horns and drums, to give carols a local twist.
The pump track at Clock Tower Square is a continuous 50m track where the rider uses an up-and-down pumping motion to propel a bicycle or scooter forward instead of pedalling, providing the perfect tool to improve balance, learning skills and improve confidence on a bike.
Open from 10.30am till 5pm until December 29, and again from January 2-10, the activity costs R30 a person including helmets, bikes and scooters. It’s suitable for children and adults.
The petting zoo, also at the Clock Tower Square, is open until 2pm today, and thereafter from 10am till 5pm until December 29. It reopens from January 3-10. For R25 a child, they can cuddle with all sort of little furries.
