HISTORY was made this week at the historical home of South African surfing.
Muizenberg, and in particular Surfer’s Corner, last Sunday hosted a ceremony in which former world champion Shaun Tomson officially opened the Surfers’ Circle Walk of Fame.
It was an apt moment for the Muizenberg Improvement District (MID) and their important recognition of the role played by their community in the evolution of surfing in South Africa. It was here, in 1919, that a UCT student named Heather Price went surfing. She rode a wooden board believed to have been provided by American soldiers on their way home from the First World War.
