Weekend Argus (Saturday Edition)
Go batty, help Tats for Bats now!
BATS are not everyone’s idea of cute, cuddly creatures; they need protection like the rest of us. The Tats for Bats tour has been travelling the country since last month, raising funds for bat conservation in South Africa through tattoo and art projects.
Artists, including tattoo artists, illustrators and digital artists are participating by submitting as many sketches and line drawings of bats for tattoo designs as they want, from cartoon doodles to realistic portraits.
The Cape Town leg of the tour concludes today with an exhibition event at KnexT Gallery in Harrington Street this evening, where artwork by local and international artists will be on display and auctioned. This art has also been collected and made into a colouring book which will be on sale, with other awesome bat merchandise.
KnexT is a small gallery, not all pretentious and snooty like many galleries (art people are second only to wine people when it comes to intimidating newbies) and hosts lots of cool events, such as this one.
A rockabilly band close to my heart – The Ratrod Cats, who should really change their name to Ratrod Bats for one night only – will be playing and the entrance fee is only R10.
Yes that’s right only R10, – the green note that is always so crumpled and dirty. I bet you just want to get it out of your wallet or purse and hand it over to this good cause. The party is from 7.30pm till 10.30pm.
