Cape Town trio make ‘The Voice SA’ top 32

- SOYISO MALITI

THREE Capetonians have made the cut and will feature in the top 32 of the first round of The Voice SA Knockouts tomorrow night.

Kirby Jo, 23, from False Bay, Craig Lucas, 24, from Elsies River, and Al Petersen, 28, from Table View will be representing the Mother City.

They’ve all been grouped together in #TeamKhan – with Parlotones’ frontman Kahn Morbee as their coach.

Musician Jo believes the competition will propel her music career to new heights, regardless of the outcome of the competition.

Of her time on the show she said: “It’s been an amazing journey. I’m grateful for the opportunity. Everyone has been encouraging.”

She added that participating in the popular reality talent show was unlike anything she had done before.

“It brings out the best in me each time I sing, it has brought out things I never thought I was capable of,” she said.

To get through the nerves, Jo gives herself pep talks and takes deep breaths before each performance. She is currently working on her own album, which she expects to release later this year.

This week’s show will see the remaining contestants being split into into four groups, with each group being assigned a coach – Morbee, Karen Zoid, Lira or Bobby van Jaarsveld.

Each singer will choose a song of their choice, and the coaches will then pair them live while on The Voice SA stage.

After both artists have performed, their coach will decide who they thought was the bet- ter performer, and take them through to the live shows.

The other singer will then have to leave the competition.

By the end of these knockout stages, only 16 contestants will remain to sing in the upcoming live shows, where voters will phone in to decide their fate.

The Voice SA airs on Sundays on M-Net channel 101 at 5.30pm, and Mondays at 6pm on M-Net channel 115.
