The grandest of Mother’s Days

the “normal” roulette table to get myself through this particular door. Heck, my old maroon MVG card is now obsolete but the staff are ever-gracious when I present it.

Other activities include 12 lanes of 10-pin bowling, ice skating, movies (including 3D), Laser Tag, and children’s game arcade. The fast food court has a wide array of outlets, and if you prefer a sitdown dinner – which is included in the prize – you can choose from several restaurants in The District: Cape Town Fish Market, Beijing Orchid, Casa Bella, Buhkara, the legendary Quarterdeck with its mind-boggling buffet, and the Hussar Grill, which is where we dined and is famous for its finest quality South African Class-A beef and wild game cuts.

For after-dinner fun there is the exotic Moroccan-themed night club, Hanover Street, which offers non-smoking levels surrounding a central dance floor where you can boogie to the music of local resident house DJs; Jackson Hall, a New Orleans-style cocktail bar offering DJs and live bands; and Roxy Revue Bar, an intimate theatre experience showcasing the talents of a wide variety of locally produced musical shows and events. Andre The Hilarious Hypnotist begins his season there on May 3, until June 4 (see Fun Finder).

Then of course there is the Grand Arena, which hosts top international shows and artists. I most recently saw the Blue Man Group there. Others I’ve been lucky enough to attend include Seal, Cirque du Soleil, Chris Rock, Michael McIntyre, and Eddie Izzard, among others.

All of this should be more than enough to keep anyone occupied for a significant amount of time, and a two-night stay in the Grand Hotel is up for grabs. Good luck.
