Indulge in ultimate seasonal comfort food

-

CAPETONIANS love to discuss the weather and a friend and I were doing just that the other day.

It’s weirdly and ridiculously hot (although at the time of writing, rain was forecast) and combined with the sunrise and sunset times, which tell our body clocks conflicting stories, it’s a very unsettling feeling. However, we must have faith some kind of winter will come and when it does, our minds and bellies turn towards the ultimate seasonal comfort food, soup.

Constantia Glen (in Constantia, would you believe?) has glorious views from its elevated location, where you can enjoy a variety of experiences in its tasting room.

From now until the end of August, three delicious soups will be on offer, on their own or paired with one of the farm’s delightfully elegant cool climate wines.

Choose between traditional Austrian beef goulash, roasted butternut, and sage soups (served with freshly baked baguette), or opt for rich French onion soup with crispy Gruyère toast. All are available in single portions (R90) or a sampler of all three (R95). Wines are available by the glass from R50.

You’ll find the delectable Constantia Glen Five here. Every Friday between 5pm and 8pm (if it doesn’t have a hashtag it’s not real: #FridayFIVE@5) there is a 25% discount on this wine, by the bottle or by the glass if you just want to swing by after work. In addition to the 2012 vintage, sit-down guests will be able to buy some older vintages of the Constantia Glen Five to enjoy at the special #FridayFIVE@5 tasting room prices.

Constantia Glen is open Sundays to Thursdays from 10am till 5pm and on Fridays and Saturdays from 10am until 8pm.
