Celebrities, models reveal all for charity
CAP D’ANTIBES, France: Fancy drinks overlooking the Mediterranean followed by dinner with Leonardo DiCaprio and entertainment by Diana Ross?
That’s what you get at the dinner held by amFAR, the Foundation for AIDS Research, the biggest party at the Cannes Film Festival, where celebrities help persuade the superrich to part with their cash in a charity auction for Aids research.
The stars really pulled out the stops at the dinner which was at the Hotel du Cap-EdenRoc near Cannes in Cap d’Antibes.
But there were wardrobe malfunctions with the likes of Elsa Hosk grappling to hold her pink-lace dress in place, while braless fellow model Bella Hadid revealed a little too much in her embellished sheer dress with a dangerously high thigh-split.
Hadid was forced to stop and try to rearrange her very racy ensemble while posing for pics on the red carpet.
American singer Nicki Minaj stooped to hold her ample curves together in her perilously low-cut dress, while 26-year-old Australian model Shanina Shaik showed off some serious side-boob in her gun-metal shimmering frock.
Will Smith, Jessica Chastain and Uma Thurman encouraged the well-heeled crowd to bid on a collection of photographs by George Hurrell, whose portraits of Hollywood stars of the 1930s and 1940s defined an entire era of movie glamour.
David Beckham sold himself – or at least the chance to play in a soccer match with him – for $390 000 (R5 million).
Ross headlined the enter- tainment which also featured a younger pop stars like Minaj, Rita Ora and DNCE, the US band famous, appropriately enough, for the song Cake by
Hoffman
the Ocean.
The most expensive lot at the auction was a collection of glamorous dresses for € 3m.
As models strutted on to the stage and the bids went through the roof, veteran actor Dustin Hoffman joked: “You think they know the models are not part of the lot?”
