Say cheers to wine club offers

THERE are two important new words in my vocabulary: wine club.

They offer many fabulous benefits and I’ve signed up with four already this year. Two are at wine estates, one is with a major retail chain and the fourth is ClubW, the Wade Bales Wine Society.

Each wine club has different attractions, like generous discounts and free delivery. Watch out for the ones that say buying a certain number of bottles a year is a condition of membership. ClubW is a monthly deal on four price levels; bronze begins at R398 a month and platinum tops the range at R998.

You tell them your preferences and they pack a personalised case of six bottles within your budget, which can be delivered for an extra R49, or collected from the premises in Constantia for free. I’m rather excited about the surprise element.

There is an online sign-up offer of an extra case of six more wines and six wine glasses. There is no joining fee, no cancellation fee and if you’re having a bad month, you can suspend your delivery. Also, if a wine you don’t fancy sneaks in there, ClubW will fetch and replace it or refund you. So far, I’m not seeing any downsides to this deal and the W could just as easily stand for “win” as “Wade”.
