3 children die in Wendy house fire

THE City’s fire and rescue services confirmed that a fire in Hazel Road, Valhalla Park, claimed the lives of three children yesterday.

The fire started in a Wendy house and was reportedly caused by an electric short-circuit. Fire and Rescue spokesperson Theo Layne said the victims, two boys and a girl, sustained fatal injuries in the blaze. Layne added: “We had 14 firefighters and four vehicles battling for hours to extinguish the fire”.

The fire reportedly started in the early hours of yesterday and all efforts to save the children were in vain. The children were aged between 3 and 12.

According to relatives, the children’s mother and grandmother were having breakfast in the main house when they heard loud screams from the back.

By the time they got to the Wendy house, the structure was in flames. – Weekend Argus Reporter
