Probe: official on leave

- SIYABONGA MKHWANAZI

THE National Education, Health and Allied Workers Union ( Nehawu) has welcomed the decision of Speaker Baleka Mbete and National Council of Provinces chairperson Thandi Modise to grant special leave to the Secretary to Parliament, Gengezi Mgidlana, pending an investigation by an independent audit committee.

Mgidlana has been at loggerheads with Nehawu for some time, with the union accusing him of wrongdoing.

Mgidlana was accused of spending thousands of rand during a trip to London last year.

The DA accused him of wasting thousands of rand on an official visit to Zambia recently.

He was also accused of paying himself an ex-gratia payment and awarding bursaries irregularly.

He has denied all the charges against him.
