Dench no longer able to read scripts

DAME Judi Dench has revealed her eyesight has become so “appalling” she has to be taught scripts and cannot read or watch TV.

The 82- year- old actress said both her eyes were now affected by macular degeneration and that doctors“can’t do anything” to help her.

During a talk in London, Dame Judi struggled to make out members of the audience asking questions and referred to her poor eyesight on several occasions.

“I can’t read at all now, not at all. So someone has to teach me the script now.

“For instance, if eight actors were going to come in here to read you a sonnet, they would have one piece of paper and I would have 14. It’s very difficult.”

And when the issue of nudity on TV was later raised, she replied: “You ask the wrong person because I can’t see.”

When Dame Judi revealed she had the condition in 2012, it affected one eye, but she confirmed this week it had since spread to the other. – Daily Mail
